Enemy or Not?

Many people believe HMRC are the enemy! The reason for this is that contacts with HMRC may be with unqualified support staff who have limited training and knowledge
This means that you end up feeling frustrated and unable to resolve your position. This can be worse if you are a vulnerable person whether that’s permanent (eg a learning disability) or temporary (eg mental health issues).
HMRC does however understand that vulnerable people need extra help.
There isn’t another number to call but if you ask for “Need Enhanced Support” you will be transferred to the NES team who work on a holistic basis solving all your issues with HMRC with one point of contact.
If you prefer you can use an online form and arrange a face to face meeting for example if you find using a telephone difficult.
